April 17, 2015 - Teutonic Tippling
Our intrepid Program Directors, Warren Schutz and Steve Billingsley, led us on a virtual trip to Germany and Austria to sample six wines from the region. From sparkling Sekt and dry Kabinett to sweet Auslese and beyond, Germany has been famous for Riesling, the noble grape known for its complex aromas, great acidity and the ability to pair with food. But the Germanic countries produce more than Riesling, and it's not all sweet- including Austria's dry Gruner Veltliner and yes, even some reds! Attendees learned about Prädikatswein, what the terms Spätlese, Auslese, Sekt, Trocken, etc. mean, as well as other terms found on wines labels from the region. Prost!
