PROGRAM FOR THE EVENING April’s guest speaker will be Jean-Francois Pellet, Winemaker for Amavi Cellars and Pepper Bridge Winery in Walla Walla. Jean-Francois or “JF” was born and raised in Switzerland. He is a third-generation wine grower, working alongside his father, who has managed the same vineyard in excess of 30 years. JF always knew what he wanted to do with his life and that was to make world-class wine. JF supplemented his experience by earning degrees in both enology and viticulture. As part of his studies, he interned in Switzerland, Germany and in Napa Valley. After graduating, he managed vineyards and made wine in Switzerland and Spain. While making wine in Spain, he was also responsible for managing 500 acres of vineyards, designed a new winery and did market development. His experience and reputation for meticulous winemaking caught the eye of Heitz Cellars in the Napa Valley. He worked at Heitz for four years before he was recruited away by Pepper Bridge. Besides being the winemaker for both Amavi and Pepper Bridge, JF plays a very key role in managing the winery’s world-class estate vineyards. We will start the evening with Amavi’s Semillion followed by their Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. From Pepper Bridge we will be tasting their Walla Walla Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. We will end this special evening with their Bordeaux style Trine red blend.
In addition to the April 12th Walk-About, we will have a silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction will go to TESH/Project SEARCH, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Project SEARCH is a high school transition program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The program combines classroom time with unpaid workplace internships. Students will spend the school year at Kootenai Health in three internship rotations while taking classes on employability and independent living skills. This combination of instruction and immersion in the workplace setting thoroughly prepares interns to meet any employers’ expectations and gain competitive employment To help in our fundraising effort to benefit Project SEARCH, your tax-deductible donation of items for the silent auction would be greatly appreciated! Acceptable donations include, but are not limited to: · New items valued at $25 or more · Gift certificates for meals or services at local merchants · Wine and wine related items
