It is going to be very difficult to top the presentation that Coco and Karl Umiker, Clearwater Canyon Cellars, gave at our January tasting. However, we may have found someone.
For our February tasting our guest speaker will be Ashley Trout. Ashley was just recently featured in Wine Enthusiast magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 Tastemakers of 2018. She was the leadoff photo for the article. Ashley, the owner of Brook & Bull Cellars and the head winemaker for the Vital Wines, which dedicates proceeds to SOS Health Services, providing emergency health care for all people regardless of ability to pay, is included in the list of “trailblazers who are shaping the future of wine, sprits, beer and cider in America.” She was joined by other winemakers, sommeliers, brewers, distillers and educators that are redefining the industry.
Ashley founded Flying Trout Wines more than 10 years ago with a goal to produce Washington state’s best Malbec. She sold Flying Trout and later opened Vital Wines. Vital Wines became the vehicle for healthcare for vineyard and winery workers who make the wine industry possible, but don’t all have the means for insurance coverage. Brook & Bull Winery produces roughly 2,000 cases per year. The winery is a reflection of blending Ashley’s East Coast roots with her Northwest wine life. We will be tasting four wines from Vital Wines and two from Brook & Bull. Having known Ashley for 10+ years, I believe this will be another very entertaining evening.
